Limbo boasts clever puzzles that are oftentimes perfect in how they make the player stop and think for just a moment, but are never so complex that one feels any need to consult a guide, or to step away from the game out of frustration. The art style works perfectly, and tastefully conceals what may otherwise be pretty gruesome deaths of the main character. That lack of color is the same thing that turned me off to Hollow Knight, a title I know I need to return to, but in this case my personal biases were unfair and unreasonable. I fully anticipated an enjoyable experience from a gameplay perspective, but was slightly turned off by the black and white color scheme.

Despite downloading the title for free from Games with Gold, I simply let it stew in my digital file graveyard until something possessed me to give it a go. My play through of Limbo was long overdue. If you enjoyed INSIDE and are thinking about trying out the 1st game, I'd personally say to skip it unless you're completely out of games to play. If you enjoyed this game, check out INSIDE, the 2nd game from the same developers. You die somewhere, and you get put pretty much right back where you were. In terms of positives, the autosave functionality is great just like the 2nd game. There are far too many timing specific puzzles as well which I don't particularly enjoy. Less of these try, die, repeat mechanics that you see so much of in this game.

Whilst in INSIDE, it was a puzzle in the sense that you could look at it, figure out what you have to do, and do it. You try something, you die, you try something else.

Also, the puzzles in LIMBO feel much more like it's purely trial and error. In this aspect, it feels like it's simply a darker version of Super Mario Bros U. This game feels much more like a puzzle platfomer- there are a lot more puzzles to solve- most of which are a lot harder than the 2nd but again, I preferred the 2nd game where it was more focused on the visual story telling aspect of the game BEFORE it is a puzzle platfomer and the puzzles aren't so difficult that it takes you out of the story aspect, whilst LIMBO feels like it's 95% puzzle platform only. Gameplay seems more simplistic than the 2nd one as well, and feels a little uninspired. Game is entirely monochromatic this time- preferred those rare splashes of colour in the 2nd game. There is no discernible story- only that people and things seem to be out to kill him.
